South Korean Ko Jin-young won the LPGA Player of the Year Award for the second time in her professional career. Also, it came after her victory at the CME Group Tour Championship.
Ko had a one-stroke lead over Nasa Hataoka in the last tournament of the season. She got nine birdies in the last round to finish with 63. Also, she won the $1.5 million jackpot. She won the tournament despite suffering pains in her wrist.
After her win in Florida, the LPGA named her the Player of the Year. Before the start of the tournament, Nelly Korda was leading by ten points. However, Ko earned 30 points for winning the tournament for a total of 211. On the other hand, Korda had 197 points as per online sports forum sources.

Aside from the Player of the Year award, Ko overtook Korda for the LPGA money title. According to sports betting experts, Korda led the LPGA money race coming into the tournament with $2.23 million. According to sports news coverage, Ko is the first LPGA golfer to win three straight money titles since Lorena Ochoa. The latter earned the money titles from 2006 to 2008. Also, Ko is the first LPGA golfer to earn more than $3 million in one season since Ochoa won $4.36 million in 2007.
Ko said that Korda played well and had a good year. However, she was luckier. As a result, the South Korean star won the Player of the Year award. Also, she said that it was difficult to win the award with Korda playing well this year.
Before the tournament, Korda was first in the world rankings with 9.98 average points. Ko was second with 9.03 average points. Although the rankings were not available right away, Ko is expected to close the gap.
